A treatment by fixed appliance consists of fixing brackets or braces on each tooth.
Each tooth can be moved by the help of a wire that joins each of the brackets.

Class I malocclusions are characterized by a gap of teeth between the superior molars compared to the inferior molars.

Class II malocclusions are characterized by a forwarded position of the superior molars compared to the inferior molars.

Step 1 : the diagnosis
We will realise a first diagnosis during the first visit with the help of x-rays and dental impressions to know if a treatment is required.
According to the results the practitioner will decide if a treatment is required or not. A treatment plan will be provided according to the results.

Step 2 : fitting of the dental appliance
The treatment starts with the orthodontist fitting the dental appliance.

Step 3 : Monthly visits
The visits are usually scheduled once a month and will last for 12 to 27 months depending on the type of malocclusion that was diagnosed.

Step 4 : Stabilization/Retention
Teeth tend to move continuously throughout your lifetime. This is a perfectly normal phenomenon. But to ensure the result after your treatment a retention phase is essential.
The retention for the upper arch is a removable appliance that will be worn approximatively 8 to 9 hours at night.
The retention for the lower arch is a wire fixed at the back of the canines and incisors.
A treatment usually lasts between 12 to 27 months depending on the type of malocclusion diagnosed.
The treatment is not painful. However it is normal to feel some minor discomfort for a few days.
